WHAT IS CODE V?
In a future where humans now co-exist with demons, a young human/demon mix girl named Venus partners with her new friend to solve the mystery of her missing father, a scientist who has been kidnapped for destructive purposes involving the extermination of the human race. The mystery starts with the discovery of a rather beat-up pocketwatch that matches Venus’s in every detail. As the implication of this discovery dawns on Venus, she and her new friend set out to find clues about the watch owners’ whereabouts. Their journey lands them in dangerous circumstances in which they face an evil demon and his plot to destroy the human race.
CHARACTER CONCEPT - VENUS
Our protagonist Venus is a young, half-demon, half-human girl living in a time where demons have risen from the underworld and claimed the overworld as their own. Humans now co-exist with demons in this new and dangerous world. Venus’s parents are a mixed-race couple: her father is human and her mother is demon. I designed my character to have the physical appearance of a demon; a race that is defined by their horns, tails, white hair, red eyes, and pale rose skin. As she is only half-demon, these characteristics are less pronounced and, in fact, she only has one horn instead of two. In terms of personality, she takes after her scientist father, being a curious girl with a love of exploration and adventure.
Venus works for the family business, a bar named Hell’s Belles. Her mother is the barkeeper and Venus helps run the bar and make ends meet. Venus and her mother are now alone since Venus’s father disappeared mysteriously when she was a young girl. Her primary outfit is her bar uniform which consists of a red blouse with a black bowtie, a black-pinstripe pencil skirt, and a crisp black apron with a large bow on the back, all inspired by a formal Tux & Tails look that corresponds with the bar’s environment.
In her spare time, Venus loves to explore nearby ruins for “old-world” relics and artifacts. I decided that one of Venus’s found artifacts would be an old Sony Walkman (“ony (Oni) Walkman” the S is rubbed off) with an 80’s mixtape. As a result, Venus loves 80’s music and has taken to wearing old 80’s band t-shirts that she found. The rest of her casual outfit consists of an oversized cardigan, ripped leggings, bunny slippers for inside, and low-top sneakers for outside
HOME CONCEPT
Venus lives above the bar in her own tiny apartment where she spends a lot of time alone with a cat named Dizzy. Being a typical young woman, she likes a cozy, lived-in, and informal space. The interior of her home has clothes strewn around the bedroom and dishes in the sink, typical of a casual, laid-back lifestyle. She surrounds herself with her cherished collections and artifacts and spends most of her time at her workbench tinkering with her passion projects. Tools and supplies are left carelessly nearby. The exterior of the building is your typical old-style city apartment. The building consists of four floors, the main floor hosting the family-owned bar.
ENVIRONMENT CONCEPT - VENUS
As the environment is cyberpunk and post-apocalyptic-inspired, the primary features are bright neon lights and overall devastation. There are currently three locations that the protagonist Venus typically inhabits every day:
The Bar, City Street, & the Human Ruins.
Venus works for the family business, a bar named Hell’s Belles. The bar has a warm, inviting feeling which contrasts with the city outside. It is richly decorated and inspired by the typical cocktail bar aesthetic.
The city Venus lives in is a post-apocalyptic city with a cyberpunk vibe. The city streets are densely populated with bars, clubs, small restaurants, and many shops that do "under the table" deals. Cool-toned neon lights illuminate the streets at night, but during the day, smog makes the sky dim and gray.
Venus loves to explore nearby ruins for “old-world” relics and artifacts. These devastated ruins suffered irreparable damage in the Human-Demon War many years ago. Although sparsely populated, the ruins are littered with relics from the pre-war past.
